In July 2025, a viral social media rumor claimed that country music star Jelly Roll had donated $50 million and personally traveled to Texas to assist victims of catastrophic flash floods. Posts described him walking through rubble, hugging survivors, and “becoming a voice of healing.” They included AI-generated images of him in a raft and emotional fake quotes like, “I’m here to hold their hands, not just sign a check.”

Sounds inspiring, right? Unfortunately — none of it was true.

According to Snopes, the story was completely fabricated. It originated from Facebook pages like Vibe Station and Music Newsflash, which posted AI-altered images and linked to ad-filled blogs to drive traffic and generate revenue. No reputable news outlet reported Jelly Roll making any such donation or traveling to a disaster zone.

The photos used were either AI-created or taken from past unrelated events, including a 2024 storm. Even the supposed quote where a child held Jelly Roll in their arms was called out as inaccurate and misleading.

The story fits the mold of what’s known as “glurge” — overly sentimental, often fake stories designed to tug at heartstrings and go viral. Similar hoaxes have surrounded Jelly Roll before, including fake songs like “Angels Don’t Pack Their Bags” that never existed.

So while Jelly Roll has done real, heartfelt work in the past, this viral flood relief story isn’t one of them. It’s a reminder to think twice before sharing feel-good headlines — especially when they seem too good (or emotional) to be true.
