There are few modern singers quite at the level of Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson, who have respectively mastered their crafts and garnered a slew of awards and accolades along the way. But together? These two powerhouse Texas natives can craft a duet that yields goosebumps with every note.

Earlier this week, Lambert—who is the most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music History—showed up on a special “Songs & Stories” episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. Situated on the rooftop of the iconic 30 Rock building in New York City, the singers had a heartfelt conversation with interspersed stripped-back duets, including one that might just leave you in tears.

“I’ve covered a lot of your songs, but I think I’ve covered ‘Tin Man’ probably the most,” Clarkson laughed. It’s the relatability of the lyrics that really speak to her, the former American Idol winner and talk show host shared. “It’s so relatable for people because you wanna be that open…I wanna teach my children to be that open with their hearts,” Clarkson said. “But you gotta also be aware that it might get crushed.”

Lambert replied, “[If] you’re gonna love big, it’s gonna hurt big. It relates to anything in life because love’s so worth it. But you know that there’s another side to it. You’ve got to do it anyway.” “Tin Man,” a ballad, is one of the country star’s most famous hits, even earning the coveted Song of the Year title at the 2018 ACM Awards.

Before the song began, the two shared a sweet moment of complimenting the other. “You are one of the best singers of all time,” Lambert said to Clarkson. “Literally, legendary.” (The encouragement and affirmation between these two music legends alone is worth the watch.)
