BBC presenter Michael Ball has announced the death of his mum.

The singer and radio star posted a message on social media telling fans that his beloved mum, Ruth Parry Ball, had died at the age of 91.

Alongside a touching photograph of his mother, he wrote on X: “Ruth Parry Ball 1934-2025 x.”

The star’s fans rushed to support him as he shared his sad news, with the Express reporting that many posted condolences.

“Michael I’m sorry for your loss,” said one follower. “My condolences to you and your family.”

“She must have been massively proud of you,” another person commented. “Another angel has her wings and a new star shines bright in the sky,” posted another.

Another follower wrote: “Oh Michael! I am so sorry to hear this news and so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.”

Michael, who took over the Sunday Love Songs show on BBC Radio 2 following the death of Steve Wright last year, has previously opened up to fans about his mum.

The singer shared bits and pieces about their lives on social media, detailing a 90th birthday treat last year.

Writing on Facebook, the star revealed they celebrated the big day by riding the world’s fastest zipline.

“We celebrated my dear mum’s 90th birthday this past weekend with a trip to Wales with the whole family,” he shared.

“What did we get up to, I hear you ask – well we took a 90 year old on the fastest zipline in the world of course! Mx.”

The star’s father, Tony Ball – who was honoured with an MBE for his contributions to the industry as head of global sales at British Leyland – also marked his 90th birthday last year.
