Jamey Johnson Says Fans Constantly Confuse Him With This Famous Country Singer
According to many fans, Jamey Johnson has a country music look-alike — and it’s none other than Chris Stapleton.
Jamey Johnson has been part of the country music scene for over two decades. He first made his breakthrough in 2005 with his debut single “The Dollar” and the album of the same name released the following year.
Over the years, he has earned 10 Grammy nominations and written songs for legendary artists such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Trace Adkins.
Yet despite his long and respected career, Jamey says he’s often mistaken for someone else — and it’s been happening for years.
In a recent appearance on the Rolling Stone podcast Nashville Now, he revealed that fans constantly confuse him with fellow country star Chris Stapleton.
It’s easy to see why. Both singers share a similar style — long hair, full beards, and a rugged Southern image that has become iconic in modern country music.
During the interview, Jamey recalled a particularly funny mix-up that happened years ago at a Tennessee airport.
“Back before the color left my hair, I flew into John Tune Airport one night after a show,” Jamey said. “I asked them to bring my car around, and they did. They handed me the keys, and the tag said ‘Stapleton.’”
As it turned out, Chris Stapleton had also landed at the same airport that night, and the valet accidentally gave Jamey Chris’s car key.
Fortunately, the two were already good friends, and Jamey said he simply took a picture of the key and sent it to Chris for a laugh.
The confusion isn’t one-sided either. Jamey added that Chris also gets mistaken for him from time to time.
“So Jamey Johnson gets Chris Stapleton, and Chris Stapleton gets Jamey Johnson,” he joked. “Well, everything but the checks. Those seem to go to the correct place.”
