The creator behind acclaimed works such as the Oscar-winning Gosford Park and The Gilded Age has another successful series readily available on Netflix.
The English Game is a period drama set during the late 19th Century, exploring how contemporary football evolved from an exclusive amateur pastime to a sport embraced by the working classes.
Beyond the sport itself, the six-episode limited series illuminates the class divisions and tensions between “wealthy Old Etonians and northern mill workers”.
On Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb, viewers have been heaping praise upon this 2020 success.
