Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix‑Famous Montecito Mansion Struggles to Find a Buyer
A sprawling Montecito property, made famous by its role in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, remains stubbornly unsold more than three years after its market debut. Despite its high-profile pedigree, the luxurious estate appears to be cursed in the real estate world.

The 13,000-square-foot Spanish-style home, set on two acres with extensive amenities including a pool, was first listed in August 2021 at $33.5 million. After a brief removal, it was relisted in March 2022, only to be taken off the market again later that year. Following a public price reduction in April 2024, the current asking price sits at $29,995,000—but it still hasn’t secured a buyer.

Ryan Malmsten, the listing broker, revealed that they’ve come close to deals several times, but potential buyers walked away at the last minute. He attributes the difficulty not to the mansion’s celebrity ties, but to its sheer scale: “Buyers today want far less square footage. They’ll pay the same amount, but they want a smaller home.”
Real estate analyst Rachel Avery echoed this sentiment, explaining that megamansions in Montecito inherently limit the pool of interested buyers. She added that, ironically, the Netflix series’ publicity has done little to boost demand—possibly because many assumed the location was the couple’s personal residence, not just a high-end rental set.

Another challenge for the property is Montecito’s reputation for environmental risk. The area is known to be prone to wildfires and flooding, factors that may deter high-net-worth buyers despite the estate’s glamorous history.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan continue to live in their nearby nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom Montecito home, which they purchased in 2020. Interestingly, Zillow estimates their residence is now worth around $29 million—suggesting that while the documentary house remains unsold, their own home has significantly increased in value.
