The Lincoln Lawyer fans should batten down the hatches for what star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo promises to be the most intense yet. The Mickey Haller actor just wrapped filming on the Netflix series’ fourth season, and his latest comments suggest viewers are in for an unprecedented level of heartbreak.

Speaking on Variety’s “Just for Variety” podcast, Garcia-Rulfo deliberately avoided plot specifics but established beyond reasonable doubt that Season 4 would be devastating. “It’s the most emotional season—heavy emotion—because of how we found him,” he said, alluding to the shocking arrest that left fans with a devastating cliffhanger in the Season 3 finale.

The actor gushed over the Season 4 screenplays, calling them his favorite of the entire series run. “I told the showrunners— even reading them before we started shooting. [This season] is the one that I’ve enjoyed the most,” Garcia-Rulfo revealed. “I’ve enjoyed all of them, but this one is the one that I’ve enjoyed the most because it has the most heaviness.”

The “heaviness” comment is ominous considering how The Lincoln Lawyer fans last saw Mickey. Season 3 ended with the defense attorney in handcuffs after police discovered con artist Sam Scales’ dead body in his Lincoln’s trunk. Adding to the strain is the departure of Andrea Freeman from the series, played by Yaya DaCosta.
