Newsom Heads to Colbert’s Couch as Kimmel Controversy Brews — Late-Night Booking Sparks Speculation Over Timing and Intent

The Late Show is an American late-night news talk show hosted by actor and comedian Stephen Colbert. It premiered on Sept. 8, 2015.
It is unclear what topics will be discussed, but the feature comes one day after Disney announced it was bringing back the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show after it was pulled from the air for comments Kimmel made about the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on Sept. 10 during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Utah. Kirk is the founder of the non-profit organization, Turning Point USA, and a close ally of President Donald Trump. Kimmel also criticized how President Donald Trump grieved Kirk’s death. Subsequently, his show was removed from Disney, Sinclair and Nexstar airways on Sept. 17. Nexstar is the parent company of FOX40. Stephen Colbert was vocal about disagreeing with the network’s decision.
After a week-long suspension, Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to late-night television Tuesday.
“Our long, national late-nightmare is over,” Colbert said after the news broke on Sept. 22.
Newsom also condemned Kimmel’s suspension, but celebrated his return.
“This is a win for free speech everywhere,” Newsom said.
