Good Morning Britain viewers were treated to a cringeworthy technical mishap, with Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Liz Kendall appearing on the programme this morning. Liz appeared alongside Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid through a video connection, but after she inadvertently donned a green blouse, the presenting pair revealed they’d been forced to implement a massive “low tech” solution for the backdrop.

Usually, they would employ a digital green screen featuring an image of the Houses of Parliament, which would have been impossible given Liz’s emerald attire.

“That image would have been projected on to you!” Susanna declared, whilst Liz struggled to contain her giggles.

She went on: “We’ve had to replace the digital screen with a piece of material in which someone has printed a photograph of the Houses of Parliament,” reports the Mirror.

“Can I just say, a slightly embarrassing moment for our first interview with you as Technology Secretary,” Richard chimed in, erupting into fits of laughter.

“Did no one tell you about the perils of the green screen?” Susanna playfully enquired.

Revealing the backstage pandemonium, Liz clarified: “He said to me, ‘Sometimes you have green screens, sometimes you have blue.'”.

“But I’ve done both, and I will never do it again. I’ve also got green shoes on but I will never do it again!”

Making light of the unflattering material, Susanna quipped: “There are a few wrinkles in the fabric behind, that people may notice. Also, quite a few wrinkles in this visit of the American President,” before they continued discussing Donald Trump’s UK visit.

As the interview wrapped up, Richard playfully advised Liz to avoid wearing green in future appearances, with Liz confirming she’d definitely opt for blue next time.
