Kelly Clarkson & Ariana Grande — A Dazzling Collision of Power Playfulness and Pure Vocal Brilliance in a Medley That Redefined What a Diva Showdown Could Be
It wasn’t just a duet. It was a celebration—of voice, of presence, of everything pop divas have ever stood for. On a stage lit with playful energy and reverent nostalgia, two powerhouse vocalists stepped into a medley that felt more like a tribute than a battle. One moment, raw emotion pierced through Alanis Morissette’s angst; the next, tenderness bloomed in Toni Braxton’s heartbreak. Then came the high notes—soaring, effortless, and electric. But what made the performance unforgettable wasn’t just the technique. It was the mutual admiration, the shared joy, the way one voice lifted the other. And when the final harmony faded, it wasn’t about who won. It was about how music, when sung with heart and humility, becomes a gift
Jimmy Fallon is no stranger to hosting ridiculous TV segments with the world’s biggest celebs. But when he made Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande go head-to-head in his ‘Mixtape Medley’ singing battle, the A-listers completely blew him away, with the moment amassing over 1.7 million views on YouTube!
For this Tonight Show segment, Jimmy split his musical guests into two teams: first, “All of Me” hitmaker John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, before pairing Ariana with country star Blake Shelton. The boys would battle in a sing-off of their own (sadly, the clip isn’t online yet), before Kelly and Ariana took to the stage to craft this viral video.
Ariana and Kelly were faced with a casino slot roller of genres and musical auras. When it landed on Pop Divas, the stars high-fived, both instantly nervous but excited for the powerhouse tracks undoubtedly on the cards.
First up, Kelly Clarkson slayed her cover of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” before slowing things down to sing an unexpectedly great version of Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart.” But when Ariana was faced with singing Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” with some incredible high notes, she even did a quick impression of Celine to make Jimmy cackle.
Jimmy exclaimed, “I’ve never seen anything like that! That was unbelievable!” before the Tonight Show’s talking jukebox announced the Mixtape Medley winner. Watch the first clip above to find out which team took home the crown!
Music Man readers might be surprised to discover that this isn’t the first time Kelly and Ariana have joined forces on stage. In 2021, the stars released a Christmas duet single, “Santa Can’t You Hear Me,” with one live performance of the track going viral with over 23 million views to date!
his isn’t the first four-way performance by Kelly, Ariana, Blake, and John either! In the midst of the four stars filming The Voice USA, the judges took to the stage for a wild cover of Otis Redding / Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” Check out the insane performance in the second video above!
Jimmy Fallon has done it again, crafting a viral moment with his star-studded Mixtape Medley. With over 1.7 million views and counting, Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande’s musical showdown has fans eagerly talking.
