She’s been the steady voice of morning TV for over a decade. Now, as CBS tightens its belt and leadership shifts, Gayle King may be preparing for her final sign-off — and the ripple effects could be massive

Gayle King’s run on CBS might be coming to be a foreseeable end.

The TV personality has been a star host on CBS Mornings, which first included her, Charlie Rose, and Norah O’Donnell, since 2012. For almost 15 years, Gayle has been in the main seat on the morning talk show, but that could potentially change as she faces negotiations to renew her contract, according to what sourced told The New York Post.

Industry insiders revealed that the Gayle’s now $10 million salary is becoming too hard to justify with CBS Mornings’ declining show ratings. According to The Post, Gayle’s yearly salary was already cut down from $13 million to $10 million in 2024 when she signed a new one-year deal at the time.

“This could be Gayle’s last year,” one source divulged to the Tiffany Network. CBS parent company Paramount Global was amid slashing it’s budget ahead of the media conglomerate’s proposed merger with Hollywood studio Skydance Media when Gayle renewed her contract.

As the company is still in semi-state of confusion, CBS News head honcho Wendy McMahon quit amid the ratings of CBS Mornings and CBS Evening News falling off.

With Wendy now gone, CBS News President Tom Cibrowski is attempting to keep the ship running, but that could become increasingly harder if Gayle bows out also.

“Tom doesn’t have enough hands to plug the holes in the dam,” a CBS insider shared, adding that Gayle leaving would put an additional stress on the veteran program as it be another problem to solve.

As early as ext month Paramount is planning to make another round of big budget cuts as part of it’s goal of cutting $500 million.

Hypothetically, if Skydance and Paramount’s deal goes through, new management from Skydance are speculated to also making budget cuts, per The Post.

“The first year of the merger will just be consolidation,” the source told the news outlet.

One source close to Skydance shared with The Post, “No one has given any thought to Gayle King’s contract as there are clearly other priorities to tackle.”

If Gayle comes back to CBS Mornings for another one year-deal it will be a “miracle,” another source added.
