Kate Garraway Sells London Home Amid Mounting Debt After Husband’s Death
British TV presenter Kate Garraway has sold her three-bedroom home in Islington for £1.7 million as she continues to confront the severe financial strain left in the wake of her husband Derek Draper’s passing. The Georgian-style property, purchased by the couple in 2004, had recently been used as a short-term rental before being placed on the market.
Garraway is believed to be facing debts of up to £800,000, much of which accumulated during the years Draper required intensive, round-the-clock care following complications from long Covid. His treatment reportedly cost as much as £16,000 per month, placing extraordinary pressure on the family’s finances.

In addition to the overwhelming care expenses, Garraway has also been managing a substantial tax bill linked to Draper’s former psychotherapy business, alongside financial losses reported by her own media company.
The sale of the Islington home is expected to offer significant relief, potentially leaving her with more than £1 million in proceeds depending on any outstanding mortgage. However, financial experts note that the broadcaster may still face ongoing challenges as she works to stabilise her situation.

Garraway has previously described her financial burden as “catastrophic,” admitting that the cost of sustaining her husband’s care left her with “unmanageable debt.” The sale marks a pivotal step in her efforts to rebuild after an exceptionally difficult chapter in her life.
