BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt began their latest programme with the devastating news about the shooting of Charlie Kirk in the US.
The Conservative activist and ally of Donald Trump died after being shot during a visit to a university in Utah on Wednesday (September 10).
Starting Thursday’s programme, Naga informed viewers: “One of President Trump’s most influential allies, Charlie Kirk, has been shot dead at a university event in the US state of Utah.”
Charlie continued: “President Trump says he’s filled with grief and anger after the assassination of the 31-year-old, calling the attack a dark moment for America. A manhunt for the killer remains underway.”
The programme then switched to correspondent Regan Morris, who was in Utah, reports the Express.

She elaborated further: “Charlie Kirk was a regular on university campuses. He built a movement of young conservative activists, a link between President Trump’s White House and the students who helped get him there.
“But soon after he took the stage, a single shot and Charlie Kirk slumps over, blood gushing from his neck. Students panicked and scrambled for safety.”
One witness was questioned about the incident and revealed: “I was watching from pretty close up and I heard a pop and I thought, no, nobody’s shooting firecrackers, right? This is the middle of the day.”
She added: “And then I watched a fountain of blood come out of the side of his neck like a water fountain.
“And it was surreal.”
President Trump said in a video address that it was “a dark moment for America”.
“Charlie was the best of America and the monster who attacked him was attacking our whole country,” he said.

“An assassin tried to silence him with a bullet, but he failed because together we will ensure that his voice, his message, and his legacy will live on for countless generations to come.”
Kirk established the organisation Turning Point USA whilst still a teenager.
The group concentrates on championing Conservative viewpoints across American university campuses.
