Netflix legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer has been confirmed for a fourth season, but Yaya Dacosta has revealed she won’t be a part of the new episodes.

Actress Yaya Dacosta has addressed her “unexpected” departure ahead of The Lincoln Lawyer season four.

Criminal prosecutor Andrea “Andy” Freeman (portrayed by Yaya Dacosta) made her debut in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer’s second season and initially served as a legal adversary to Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia Rulfo).

However, as the story progressed, the pair eventually became partners, then casual lovers, and ultimately developed a deeper romantic connection.

Andy is notable for appearing in writer Michael Connelly’s book The Fifth Witness, which served as the source material for the show’s second season.

Dacosta’s portrayal of Andy was given more prominence in the third season, but the character doesn’t appear in the novel The Law of Innocence, which forms the basis for season four.

This factor, combined with Mickey’s former spouse Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell) making a full-time comeback to the courtroom series, appears to have resulted in Dacosta’s understated departure.

Speaking with TV Insider, the actress revealed: “Andrea’s absence was not expected or explained to the audience.

“Sometimes when things like this happen, the writers will give an explanation in a conversation between two characters who are on the show.

“Or someone will make a phone call and pretend the disappeared character is on the other end. Who knows what they’ll do? I’m just focusing on the now and future.”

Andy’s exit from season four of The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t necessarily spell the end for her character.

Showrunner Ted Humphrey hinted at a possible return, stating: “You never say never. First of all, obviously we’ve got to get another season and then hopefully seasons after that.

“We feel like we have a really great palette of characters to play with, and so you can bring them in and out of the stories.

“So Andrea is a great tool in our toolbox that we would love to find another way to use.”

This wouldn’t be Dacosta’s first hiatus from a popular show, only to make a comeback later.

She played ED nurse April Sexton in NBC’s Chicago Med from its inception until the sixth series when she left, only to return for its final run in season eight.

However, whether there will be more of The Lincoln Lawyer remains to be seen, as fans eagerly await the debut of season four, potentially later this year or early 2026.
