A dark night in Boston ended it all. No more stage lights. No more roaring guitars. Just lawsuits, broken trust, and the painful downfall of a once-legendary name: Jane’s Addiction.

According to Rolling Stone, founding members Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins have filed a lawsuit against longtime frontman Perry Farrell, accusing him of assault, erratic behavior, and singlehandedly destroying both their North American tour and a long-awaited new album. The lawsuit, filed on July 16 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims over $10 million in losses.

“The band can no longer function as a result of the Defendant’s conduct, including his sudden, violent outbursts and demonstrated inability to serve as the band’s frontman and vocalist.” – From the official complaint.

Navarro has also filed a separate lawsuit for physical assault, while all three plaintiffs claim Farrell’s growing alcohol abuse wrecked the band’s live performances — with him allegedly drinking wine onstage, slurring his speech, and rambling between songs to the audience’s confusion and discomfort.

🎤 The breaking point came on September 13, 2024, in Boston, when Farrell allegedly attacked Navarro onstage mid-show, stunning the crowd. The band canceled their entire tour soon after and officially “took time off” — though according to Navarro, Jane’s Addiction died that night.

“I have to say that was my least favorite gig of all time. All the work, the writing, the hours in the studio, the travel, and overcoming my long COVID — it all ended in an instant.”

Ironically, just days after the group’s collapse, Jane’s Addiction released a new single, “True Love” — one last offering from the reunited lineup of Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins. But with everything that happened, it now feels more like a funeral song for a dream that almost came back to life.

Navarro said he once had high hopes for a true revival — especially after a string of emotionally powerful shows in Europe, where the band performed stripped-down sets with no gimmicks, no egos, just four men playing music like they did in the early days.

“We weren’t competing. There was no ego. It was just the four of us making great music. But that night in Boston… it ended everything.”
