She’s the no-nonsense brainbox who’s struck fear into contestants for over 15 years as The Governess on ITV’s The Chase – but now fans of Anne Hegerty are breathing a sigh of relief after alarming online rumours of an “urgent medical warning” sparked panic across social media.

Viral posts claiming “sad news” and a mysterious health crisis for the beloved quizzer sent concern rippling through the nation, with worried viewers flooding comments sections demanding “full details” and fearing the worst for her future on the hit show.

But Daily Mail can reveal the truth behind the scare: there is no new emergency for Anne, who remains in good health and very much part of The Chase family as the programme continues into 2026.

The dramatic captions appear to stem from recycled stories dating back to August 2025, when Anne openly discussed a routine check-up that flagged prediabetes – prompting her GP to issue a precautionary warning and suggest medication to help stave off full-blown diabetes.

Far from a life-threatening crisis, the 67-year-old – known for her razor-sharp intellect and dry wit – has since spoken candidly about her positive health journey, revealing she’s shed an impressive 30lbs (almost two stone) without drastic measures.
