Darius Rucker recently surprised fans by announcing his engagement to longtime girlfriend Emily Deahl after a sweet, unexpected proposal.
In an interview with NBC’s TODAY, the country star revealed that they’re taking a very relaxed approach to wedding planning.
“We don’t really have any plans. We’re not gonna plan,” Rucker said. “We’re just gonna get married — have a big party somewhere.”
He even joked with hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer, saying, “You guys will be invited.”
While the couple hasn’t shared specific wedding details, Rucker took a moment to praise his fiancée, calling her “an amazing human being.”
The engagement became public on October 8, when Rucker posted black-and-white photos on Instagram showing him down on one knee on a beachside boardwalk. In the caption, he wrote:
“Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I have never known. The day I met you I knew I didn’t want to go another one without you. Now I don’t have to.”
The couple has mostly kept their relationship private, confirming it only in early September with a smiling selfie outside the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Aside from his engagement, Rucker also appeared on TODAY to promote his new rock supergroup Howl Owl Howl, formed with Mike Mills of R.E.M. and Steve Gorman of The Black Crowes. Their debut single, “My Cologne,” was released on October 31, and the band is currently on tour.
