CBS is turning up the volume this fall with The Road, a brand-new competition series where music dreams collide with the gritty reality of life on tour. With Blake Shelton as executive producer and “headliner” Keith Urban leading the charge, the show is already generating a buzz and not just for its star power.

A Star-Powered Launch

Premiering October 19, The Road brings together a trio of country music heavyweights: Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, and Blake Shelton. Co-created by Shelton and Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan, the series will push 12 aspiring artists to their limits in pursuit of one life-changing goal.

Shelton will play both behind-the-scenes architect and on-screen mentor, while Urban offers contestants the ultimate test — performing as his opening act on tour. “Tour manager” Gretchen Wilson will be the voice of tough love and guidance, armed with years of hard-earned road wisdom.

The Grind of Life on Tour

“These contestants are getting a crash course in the real and raw grind of being a touring musician,” Wilson shared. “Helping them sharpen their talents and connect with crowds across America has been a highlight of my career.”

And this is no gentle ride. Wilson warns that opening for Urban’s packed arenas is not for the faint-hearted – the applause has to be earned, note by note.
