The film only arrived today (May 8) on Netflix, but the critics have already delivered their verdicts, with something of a split in the consensus.
According to The Daily Beast, the film is âso saccharine itâs liable to give viewers diabetesâ.
The reviewer goes on to state: âEliciting exasperated laughs at its every manipulation, it may be the most ridiculously corny movie of all time.â

The Guardian was more complimentary in its 3/5 review and hailed it as a âgentle Netflix charmerâ.
The publication praised the film for its third act, describing it as âa neatly contrived yet sweetly effective and emotionally earned endingâ.
The review concluded: âRemarkable might be a stretch, but decent will do.â
While TheWrap said it was âtoo heartwarming to dismissâ and the movie didnât âneed to be remarkable to be worthwhileâ.

The movie follows a widow and aquarium worker Tova (plashed by Sally Field) and her friendship with Cameron (Lewis Pullman), who comes to town in search of his long-lost father.
Prior to Cameronâs arrival, Tova has formed an unlikely bond with a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus (voiced by Alfred Molina), who narrates the film and has a surprising role to play in the story.
Along with the leads, Remarkably Bright Creatures stars Gangs of London and Star Trek legend Colm Meaney, Joan Chen from The Wedding Banquet, The Ranchâs Kathy Baker, Little Miss Sunshine of Beth Grant, and Sofia Black-DâElia from The Night Of.
Director Olivia Newman, who helmed another adaptation Where the Crawdads Sing, told Netflixâs Tudum: âSo much healing can happen through connection.
