Axel Rudakubana, the teenager serving a life sentence for the 2024 Southport murders, has been charged with multiple new offences following a series of alleged attacks on prison staff while in custody.

The 19-year-old is accused of several incidents that allegedly took place at HMP Belmarsh in 2025. According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges include two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, one count of attempted grievous bodily harm, and one count of possessing an offensive weapon while in prison. He is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court via video link on September 11.

Rudakubana is currently serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 52 years after pleading guilty to the murders of three young girls during the July 2024 attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, as well as multiple counts of attempted murder.

The latest charges relate solely to alleged incidents that occurred while he was incarcerated. Authorities have not announced any verdict on the new allegations, which will be considered through the court process.

The case has once again drawn widespread attention in the UK, with the fresh charges adding another chapter to one of the country’s most high-profile criminal cases in recent years.
