New Video of Man With Similar Backpack Just Before Kidnapping
A newly surfaced security video may be a critical piece in the investigation surrounding the kidnapping near the home of Nancy Guthrie — and federal authorities are paying close attention.
According to a report from TMZ, the footage was recorded approximately five miles from Nancy’s Tucson residence in the early hours of February 1. The man seen in the video is now reportedly on the FBI’s radar, and the timing could be crucial.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that investigators are “lasering in” on the individual, who appears to be both wearing and carrying backpacks around the same timeframe as the reported kidnapping. Notably, the backpack in the new footage features reflective straps — similar to the one worn by the masked individual seen approaching Nancy’s front door in previously released video.
Authorities have already confirmed that the backpack spotted at Nancy’s home was a Walmart Ozark Trail Hiker model. In the newly surfaced clip, the man is seen attempting to enter a locked gate at 1:52 AM, captured on a resident’s Ring camera. He is unsuccessful and leaves shortly after.
Here’s where the timeline becomes even more compelling.
During a press conference last week, officials revealed that Nancy’s Nest camera disconnected at 1:47 AM. Then, at 2:12 AM, the camera’s software detected a person. While the FBI previously released footage of a man approaching Nancy’s front door, that video did not include a visible timestamp.
Sources directly connected to the investigation now tell TMZ that the door-approach video was indeed recorded at 2:12 AM — meaning the figure captured at Nancy’s home is believed to be the same person detected by the system.

The man seen five miles away at 1:53 AM would have had just under twenty minutes to travel the distance, potentially change appearance or put on a disguise, and approach Nancy’s home.
